British luxury department store chain Harvey Nichols has become a national institution, of sorts. Not bad for a business started in 1831 from a terraced house on a corner in Knightsbridge selling linen. Almost 200 years later the only tangible link between that small family business started in a house and the colossus that the brand has now become in the world of luxury department stores is the location of Knightsbridge. The current store in London has been in it's position since 1889 when it was designed by one C. W. Stephens, who went on to also design Harrods.
